No offense, but I don't understand this story. And I don't get what's going on with the style. I'm as eager as the next one to get into any kind of writing project, but I have NO CLUE what is going on with this one. I don't mean to insult the creativity at work here because I respect it even if I don't understand it, but if you're asking why we're not participating, my response is that I don't have any idea what's going on with characters, story, style, theme, or anything.

To be blunt, the project seems a bit masturbatory. Nothing's being accomplished but some college-level words getting put together under a collage of topics vaguely referential to a fictionalized version of the current state of affairs. Which could work in theory, but this multiple author thing's just gonna make it more incoherent.

I mean, go ahead, prove me wrong. I'm all for the endeavor. I just can't add to it cause I don't know what's going on.

I like the idea and the product. To be fair, this whole blog is somewhat masturbatory. And actually attempting something original, if not totally coherent, is what this whole thing was supposed to be about.

The result, if I understand it, was never supposed to be the creation of a start to finish, seamless work of fiction. It was to throw something against the wall and see what sticks. I haven't contributed because to be honest nothing's really come to me, and this type of freeprose writing is tough for me. But I love the fact that something a bit ballsy is hitting these pages, and it has kicked me in the ass to put together a contribution to the site for the first time in a while.

I'd also suggest that a group project is only as strong as what its participants offer. If you don't like it, change it. But taking potshots and unfair literary criticisms of a loosely defined writing experiment will only make others gunshy and chill what is supposed to be a creative freeforall. In short, put up or shut up.

Well, I'll be hiring Face as my first defense attorney.

Thank you for reiterating what I thought I made clear in my highly clarified defense of why I wasn't posting to this "story" when called to task by Catfish.

I wasn't taking potshots. I only explained myself on behalf of myself and the only criticism was my allusion to "college-level words getting put together under a collage of topics vaguely referential to a fictionalized version of the current state of affairs". It is slightly derogatory, true, but on the other hand, it's a fairly accurate description of what's happening in the creative writing process going on so far and I think it would make a good synopsis for those who wanted a pithy gist.

I really DON'T understand it. And that's not a criticism. Dadaism was an entire movements, one of my favorites, that was meant NOT to be understood. And my favorite book of all, Finnegans Wake, I don't understand either. On a conscious level. It just so happens I don't understand this project either. I also don't like it. That's my opinion. And it sounds pretty critical, I guess, but I didn't offer it as a criticism, I just mean it as a response to Catfish as to explain why I'm not participating, having been called to task.

Anyway, I'll stop now cause if you don't understand what I'm saying now, which is basically a repetition of what I said before, then it's not gonna help to say it a third time.

I encourage you all to participate and participate heavily in this project and take it as far as you want to go. But I have 300 more pages of bike trip to finish before March, and this project here I don't understand, so I can't, myself, be of any help.
